Our Courses

Your training programmes will be customised specifically to meet the needs of your people and your business. We have developed modules around seven essential skills. One or all of these can be selected as the foundation for your programme.

Eligibility Criteria


To be eligible a learner must be:

  • A New Zealand permanent resident or citizen
  • Be in paid employment
  • Have low levels of literacy and/or numeracy (note – we assess this for the employer by checking the learners’ credits on the NZQF and/or assessing using the LNAAT tool)

Learners are not eligible if:

  • They are enrolled as a full time student at a TEO or secondary school
  • Accessing TEC funded literacy and/or numeracy provision at another TEO or workplace
  • Enrolled in an Industry Training Programme at Level 4 or above or a New Zealand Apprenticeship

The Workplace Literacy and Numeracy Fund

The fund helps make it possible for employers to:

  • Provide high-quality literacy and numeracy programmes that are customised for their workplace.
  • Address productivity problems where the root cause is in the literacy and numeracy skill levels of employees.

How much does the programme cost?

The programme is fully funded by the government for eligible learners. See eligibility criteria above.

How long is the programme?

The programme is between 25 and 80 hours long over 10 plus weeks.

Our staff work shifts, when do you train?
  • We work with you to find a time that works for your business. We’re used to working at all times of the day and late into the evening
  • We recommend training take place in 2-3 hour blocks, once or twice a week however the most important element is that it fits in with your work requirements
  • We recommend providing training within work time to support your staff to attend
Where does the training take place?

We deliver training at your premises

I don’t know how I’ll cover time off the job while the training takes place

There are different ways you may choose to manage this

    • Have someone else in the learner’s team cover their work tasks while they are in training
    • Use temp staff
    • Stop the production line
    • Run the training outside the normal shift time but pay the learners during this period

Many organisations testify that the value of the training far outweighs the cost of having it in work time.

I’m concerned about how my staff will react to the programme. I don’t want to single people out as having low literacy or numeracy skills

We recommend positioning the programme as an opportunity to upskill for success at work. Many organisations tend to focus on the specific areas that will be covered in the programme, when they communicate with employees eg – health and safety or understanding standard operating procedures rather than literacy and numeracy. We can support with key messaging along with flyers for learners

There are a number of ways you can encourage people to join the programme

    • Ask for people to put their names forward
    • Shoulder tap employees about the opportunity
    • Take a department wide approach and sign all the team up so everyone’s involved

It’s important the learners are engaged in the programme so they are motivated to learn

This will depend on the key areas of focus but may include:

The first step is understanding the needs of your organisaiton. One of our team will conduct a Business Needs Analysis and a Learner task analysis so we really understand your business

Our programmes are customized to your business and tailored to individual learners needs so we will ensure the programme is specific to you and your people

We are here to make the process as easy as possible for you.

  • We will complete the application for funding for you and complete all the administration such as monitoring attendance and completing progress reports for TEC
  • We do need your time and commitment to provide us information around your needs and to support your learners to be released from work to attend the programme
  • We think you’ll see such a change in your people that it will outweigh the time investment required
How often will I hear from you during the programme?

We are available to answer any questions and discuss the programme at any time. In terms of set touch points

    • We will be in touch weekly to update you on attendance
    • We conduct an early point evaluation, mid-point and final evaluations for both the client and the learner
    • We provide a thorough progress report mid-way through and at the conclusion of the programme which details our progress to key milestones
How will we measure the success of the outcomes of the programme?

We will work with you to determine business measures that we can easily monitor to see what impact the training is having on your business. Example of this are:

    • The number of incident reports submitted
    • Number of customer complaints received
    • Levels of waste
    • Supervisor observations
